No they didn’t have any breaks, no stabilizing or re-starting. They just used the patches continually until they felt like they wanted to stop. This continual way of eating will reset the hypothalamus as well.
Adding good fats: people saying they need TONS of good fat every day is just a marketing tool, you don’t need tons of fat to be healthy at all. You get your good fats from the beans, lentils and vegetables you eat on the ‘long term’ diet, you dont need to add extra fats or oils (which will just make you fat).
You dont need to add fat from eggs, milk, nuts or any oils – you will stay healthy, get fitter and still lose weight.
The long term diet should include a lot of vegetables and add POTATOES so you feel full. As in a large potato peeled (or not) and boiled and mashed with some of the (vitamin rich) water it was cooked in and a little milk, salt and pepper – twice a day.
Cut back on meat, poultry and dairy and add more starch. Starch is satisfying, low in fat and is not fattening. Its what you add to it that is fattening like sauces, butter, fat/oils etc.
This is how my trial clients (and me) did this long term on our new ‘long term’ diet.
